Background
In October 2025, discussions began between NBO Foundation and the Rotary Club of Lekki Golden โ under the leadership of President Dr. Christiana Okenla โ regarding potential school renovation projects in Lagos State.
Two initiatives were initially proposed: a cafeteria renovation at a primary school in Ikoyi, and a classroom refurbishment at Badore Community Primary School. When a November 2025 inspection revealed that the Ikoyi cafeteria had already been completed by local government authorities, the focus shifted entirely to Badore.
Assessment & Redirection
During a November 2025 visit to Badore Community Primary School, Dr. Okenla and NBO Foundation representatives met with the head teacher to assess the school's needs. While classroom deterioration was evident, a more urgent concern emerged: the school had no sick bay or designated medical space whatsoever.
Pupils experiencing illness or injury โ even minor ones โ had to be transported off-premises to a nearby clinic. In serious cases, such delays can worsen medical outcomes significantly.
70%+
of public schools in Nigeria lack functional sick bays or basic medical facilities โ a national gap NBO Foundation is committed to addressing.
Following these findings, the project scope was formally redirected. During the week of January 19, 2026, the Badore Community Primary School Sick Bay Project was officially approved. An unused office adjacent to the head teacher's office was identified as the ideal space for conversion.
Vendor Selection & Procurement
Following multiple consultations and vendor evaluations โ prioritising service quality and cost efficiency โ Lifeline Global Concepts was awarded the contract to supply and install all required items. The agreed equipment list was finalised and a conceptual layout for the finished space was developed prior to installation.
Completion & Commissioning
On Friday, March 6, 2026, all medical and support equipment was delivered, installed, and arranged. The formerly unused office space was fully transformed โ painted, furnished, and equipped โ into a functional sick bay.
The facility provides primary school pupils with a safe and private area to receive immediate care for illness or minor injuries while awaiting further medical attention if required.
On Thursday, March 26, 2026, NBO Foundation and the Rotary Club of Lekki Golden formally commissioned the sick bay. The handover took place simultaneously with Rotary Club's WASH Project โ Pad a Girl & Boys Hygiene Initiative, which served the Primary, Junior, and High School sections of the Badore school community.
The sick bay project itself was dedicated specifically to the Primary School section, where the need for a designated first-aid and student welfare space had first been identified.
The founders of NBO Foundation, Engr. Norbert Oleah and Mrs. Bunmi Oleah, were present at the commissioning, joining school leaders, Rotary representatives, community stakeholders, and pupils to mark the close of the project's first chapter.
A pathway to daily care
One of the most important outcomes from the commissioning was the commitment from the Local Government representative at Badore to speak with relevant stakeholders about getting a nurse assigned to the school. For NBO Foundation, that next step matters: equipment creates the room, but trained hands help turn the room into a dependable point of care.
With the sick bay commissioned, the project now stands as a practical model for what targeted collaboration can deliver in public schools โ visible infrastructure, documented impact, and a clear next step toward sustained student welfare.
